Current champion Chennai Super Kings has started IPL 2024 with a win. In the inaugural match played at MA Chidambaram Stadium, CSK defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore by 6 wickets. This is CSK’s first win under the captaincy of Ruturaj Gaikwad. Gaikwad made his debut as captain in this match and passed his first ‘test’. Batting first in CSK’s stronghold, RCB scored 174 runs, which Chennai Super Kings achieved by losing 4 wickets in 18.4 overs. Chennai’s dominance in Chepauk continues since 2008.
Captain Ruturaj Gaiwad and Rachin Ravindra started the innings for CSK (CSK va RCB) to chase the target of 174 runs set by RCB. Both added 38 runs for the first wicket. Gaikwad was caught by Yash Dayal at the hands of Cameron Green on the personal score of 15. Even at the age of 35, Ajinkya Rahane is challenging the youth, played like this on the boundary, Kohli was left watching.
Kohli made ‘Virat’ record in the first match of IPL 2024, became the first Indian to achieve this feat.
Anuj and Karthik made a partnership of 95 runs
Earlier, current champion Chennai Super Kings’ fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman took 4 wickets with his ‘variation’ due to which Royal Challengers Bangalore were in trouble but there was a fight between Anuj Rawat (48 runs) and Dinesh Karthik (38 not out) for the sixth wicket. With a partnership of 95 runs, the team was successful in making a respectable score of 173 runs for 6 wickets. But considering the pitch favorable for the batsmen, this score will not be enough to stop the CSK batsmen.
RCB scored 83 runs in the last 6 overs
Anuj Rawat (25 balls) scored 25 runs against Tushar Deshpande and along with experienced cricketer Karthik (38 not out) made an important partnership of 95 runs for the sixth wicket in just 57 balls. Rawat, who was playing cautiously initially, changed the course of the innings by hitting three sixes and one four on Deshpande, due to which RCB scored 83 runs in its last six overs. Captain Faf Duplessis played an inning of 35 runs.
RCB had lost 5 wickets for 78 runs.
Rawat hit four fours and three sixes during his innings. Earlier, Mustafizur had put RCB under pressure by taking four wickets in his first two overs and making the score 78 runs for five wickets. Mustafizur dominated the first innings, but after that Rawat played a sensible innings. Had Mathisha Pathirana been fit to join CSK, Mustafizur might not have got a place in the playing eleven.
Kohli scored 21 runs
Mustafizur, who was deployed to stop Du Plessis, took two wickets with the help of the pitch in the powerplay. Mustafizur dismissed Rajat Patidar after Duplessis. Deepak Chahar again did not allow Glenn Maxwell to even open his account. Virat Kohli, playing his first competitive match after more than two months, scored 21 runs in 20 balls. After facing only six balls in the powerplay, Kohli’s first aggressive stroke was a six off Mahesh Tikshina. During this period, Kohli also completed 12000 runs in T20 cricket.
